(USNewsMag.com) – A massive house party turned deadly in Worcester County, Massachusetts, when a shooting left one teenager dead in the hospital and another badly injured.
On Sunday, May 12th, early in the morning, an altercation broke out at a large house party in Northborough which resulted in the shooting death of a 16-year-old boy and serious injury to a 17-year-old boy.
At the time of the shooting, police were already on the way after one of the partygoers flagged them down around 1 AM and reported that someone at the party had flashed a firearm inside the house. According to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr, multiple gunshots rang out as soon as officers arrived and assembled a few acres away in preparation. After hearing the shots, they ran into a chaotic scene at a party of about 300 young people.
Three people, between the ages of 19 and 27, were arrested for illegal firearms possession. They were arraigned on Monday, May 13th, and identified as Pedro Desouza Passos, Arnaldo Nogueira Filho, and Wallisom Texeira Da Silva. The court documents revealed that aside from the recovered weapon, ammunition, and a 30-round magazine were also discovered in their vehicle by police, who caught up with them an hour later after they escaped.
The victim was later identified as Ygor Correia of Bellingham. Police rushed Correia to an ambulance, which took him to UMass Memorial where the boy was pronounced dead. The 17-year-old who was also shot was treated and in stable condition. A few others reportedly suffered injuries during the chaos but refused medical assistance, and two went to Malborough Hospital with minor, non-life-threatening injuries.
The house where the large party took place, located at 333 Howard Street, allegedly had a history of such large gatherings. Northborough police are asking anyone present at the scene of the shooting or with information about what happened or pictures and cell phone videos to reach out.
