Shocking Details Revealed in Murder of Two Kansas Moms

(USNewsMag.com) – Shocking details have been revealed in the death of two missing Hugoton, Kansas, women, Jilian Kelley, 39, and Veronica Butler, 27, whose bodies were found in Texas County, Oklahoma.

Butler and Kelley, the wife of First Christian Church pastor Heath Kelley and mother of four children, have been missing since they disappeared while driving to pick up Butler’s two children for a birthday party on March 30th. Kelley was with Butler, accompanying her to pick up the children, as she was a court-ordered supervisor for the father’s visits with the children, according to the affidavits.

Authorities located the car the two women were driving in a rural area of Texas County along the Kansas border. Blood, Butler’s glasses, a broken hammer, and a magazine for a pistol (but no firearm) were found at the scene, according to court records.

Four people, including Cora Twombly, 44, and her husband, Cole Twombly, 50, Tad Cullum, 43, and Tifany Adams, 54, the grandmother of Butler’s children involved in a custody dispute with her, have been arrested in connection to the deaths of Kelley and Butler. The four people, who face charges of kidnapping, first-degree murder, and conspiracy to commit murder, are allegedly members of an anti-government group that referred to themselves as “God’s Misfits.”

Adams and Butler have been involved in a custody dispute since February 2019 as the father of Butler’s children, Adams’ son, is in a rehabilitation facility. According to two teenage witnesses, the group met regularly at the Twomblys’ home and had allegedly previously tried to kill Butler.

According to the arrest affidavit, evidence shows Adams had purchased five stun guns and pre-paid “burner” cell phones, an indication that the murders were pre-planned. Adams had conducted internet searches for the pain levels involved with using the weapons, according to the affidavits.

The four people pleaded not guilty in court on April 17th and are being held at the Texas County Jail in Guymon without bond.
