Details of the Recall
Lysnt LLC has recalled specific batches of Answers Pet Food following contamination reports of Listeria and Salmonella. This decision follows an FDA advisory issued after unopened retail samples tested positive for the pathogens. The contaminated pet food is available in frozen 4-pound cartons of beef and chicken recipes and is distributed both nationwide and online.
Consumers are advised to throw away the affected products and avoid donating them.
The FDA has identified numerous illnesses in dogs related to the contaminated batches and emphasizes that humans handling or consuming these products also face health risks. The FDA strongly recommends cleaning and disinfecting all pet supplies and household surfaces that have come into contact with the compromised food.

Symptoms and Risks
Listeria and salmonella infections can pose significant health hazards. Symptoms include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headaches, neck stiffness, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever. Vulnerable populations, such as infants, seniors, and immunocompromised individuals, are at a higher risk for severe and potentially life-threatening complications.
“The FDA recommended that Answers Pet Food recall these products. To date, the firm has not initiated an adequate recall of the affected products,” according to an FDA warning issued on Sept. 23.
The FDA advises pet owners to throw away affected pet food in a secure container. Symptoms in pets may be milder but can still pose a long-lasting health threat.

Lysnt LLC has issued the recall as a precautionary measure following FDA testing and warnings. While no confirmed illnesses have been reported, the proactive recall aims to prevent a public health crisis. Federal health officials suggest using gloves or paper towels when handling the recalled products to mitigate any health risks. “If consumers have any pet food on the list below, they are advised to throw it away in a secure container. Do not feed it to your pets. Do not donate the food.”
The FDA continues to monitor and address the situation, urging consumers to report any pet illnesses to their veterinarians and submit complaints about pet food products via the FDA’s Safety Reporting Portal.
