Michael Cohen Offers Prediction on Trump Trial

(USNewsMag.com) – Michael Cohen, an ex-lawyer for former President Donald Trump, said that his old employer would “be held accountable” in the hush money lawsuit brought against the former president in New York.

Cohen appeared on MSNBC on Saturday, March 16th, and told host Katie Phang that he believes his former employer will face consequences for allegedly hiding hush-money payments to Stormy Daniels and falsifying business records. Cohen arranged the hush-money deal with Daniels in 2016, facilitating a $130,000 payment to the adult film actress, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, in an agreement to keep quiet about her alleged affair with Trump.

Trump faces 34 felony counts in the case, to which he’s pleaded not guilty and, like all of the cases currently against him, claims it’s part of a wider politically motivated “witch hunt” to keep him out of the White House. He also denied having an affair with Daniels. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is in charge of the case, which was scheduled to hit the courtroom on March 25th before Judge Merchan’s decision on Friday, March 15th, to delay it for 30 days. The delay came in response to over 100,000 new pages of discovery produced by the Justice Department.

Cohen told Phang that he does not doubt that Trump “will be tried in this case.” He said it would not be based on himself or “any of the witnesses,” but “on the determination of the jury” who will base their decision on how credible those witnesses are.

The former Trump lawyer said that even more important than witness credibility “is the documentary evidence” that will show Trump “is guilty of the charges.” Cohen concluded with a prediction: the former president “will be held accountable.”

Trump’s re-election campaign was asked about Cohen’s comments and responded by calling Cohen “a proven and self-admitted liar,” and a “loser.”

Cohen served time in prison for working with Trump, pleading guilty to bank fraud, tax fraud, campaign finance violations, and other felony charges. He has since become one of Trump’s most outspoken critics and even testified in the New York civil fraud trial against the former president.
