Border Crisis and Rising Child Trafficking Risks

Border Crisis and Rising Child Trafficking Risks

Well, folks, it seems our esteemed Vice President Kamala Harris has been busy playing investment banker with taxpayer money, all in the name of stemming the tide of illegal immigration. But as we’ve come to expect from this administration, the results are about as effective as using a teaspoon to bail out the Titanic. Let’s dive into the numbers and see just how spectacularly this $5 billion boondoggle has failed to secure our borders.

The Harris Plan: A Costly Failure

In March 2021, President Biden tasked Vice President Harris with leading the administration’s efforts to address the root causes of migration from Central America. Harris coordinated over $5 billion in public and private investments for the region, aiming to create jobs and reduce corruption.

“I’ve asked her, the VP, today — because she’s the most qualified person to do it — to lead our efforts with Mexico and the Northern Triangle and the countries that help — are going to need help in stemming the movement of so many folks, stemming the migration to our southern border,” President Biden stated when assigning this crucial role to Harris.

Despite these efforts, the results have been nothing short of disastrous. Since the Biden-Harris administration took office, over 500,000 unaccompanied migrant children have arrived at the U.S.-Mexico border. This staggering number highlights the abject failure of the administration’s approach to border security and immigration control.

The Surge Continues

The influx of unaccompanied minors shows no signs of slowing down. Between October 2023 and June 2024 alone, more than 90,000 unaccompanied children were encountered at the southwest border, with 80% hailing from Central America. This surge comes despite Harris’s claims of success in the region.

“This summer, at the Summit of Americas in Los Angeles, I announced that, working with the Partnership for Central America, we generated more than $3.2 billion in investments,” Vice President Kamala Harris boasted, adding, “These investments are creating jobs, connecting people to the digital economy, expanding access to financing for small businesses, providing training and education for youth, women, and workers, and improving economic livelihoods for people in the region.”

However, the reality on the ground tells a different story. The investments have not significantly discouraged migration or improved wages enough to prevent border crossings. The cancellation of several Trump-era immigration policies by the Biden-Harris administration has only exacerbated the problem, leading to a sharp rise in unaccompanied migrant children encounters.

Rising Concerns of Child Trafficking and Security Risks

Perhaps most alarming are the reports of lax vetting practices for unaccompanied minors. These practices have resulted in some gang members and adult migrants being released into the U.S., posing significant security risks to American communities.

Furthermore, incidents of potential child trafficking connected to unaccompanied minors have been reported, raising serious concerns about the welfare of these children and the unintended consequences of the administration’s policies.

“Despite coordinating the investment of more than $5 billion in public and private investments to increase employment opportunities and reduce corruption in Central America, Vice President Kamala Harris’s efforts to stem the flow of migrants across the southwest border have failed miserably.”

As the crisis at the border continues to unfold, it’s clear that throwing money at the problem is not the solution. The Biden-Harris administration’s policies have not only failed to secure our borders but have also potentially put thousands of children at risk. It’s time for a serious reevaluation of our border policies and a return to common-sense measures that prioritize the safety and security of both American citizens and the vulnerable migrants seeking entry into our country.
