(USNewsMag.com) – Bill Ackman, 57, is blaming President Joe Biden, 81, for the Jan. 27 drone attack that killed 3 U.S. soldiers and injured 34 in Jordan.
The billionaire hedge fund manager and founder and CEO of Pershing Square Capital Management posted on Twitter on Jan. 28, writing that “our enemies perceive weak American leadership,” which allows them to conduct such attacks. He said that “our enemies do not fear us,” which makes the world “a much more dangerous place.”
In the post, Ackman, a supporter of more aid for Ukraine, asked what the world would look like if “we walk away from Ukraine.”
He added that Biden serving a second term is “dangerous and absurd.” He said there needs to be “strength and leadership in the White House.” Ackman has urged Democrats to move away from Biden and is backing his challenger, Minnesota Rep. Dean Phillips, 54. Ackman reportedly donated $1 million to a political action committee that supports Phillips.
His comments echoed Republican lawmakers such as South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham and former President Donald Trump who also placed blame for what the Pentagon described as a one-way “suicide drone attack on a patrol base” in Jordan, which “radical Iran-backed militant groups” carried out.
Biden issued a response to the attacks during a campaign stop at Brookland Baptist church in South Carolina, stating that the U.S. would retaliate against Iran. Without giving detail, Biden said, “We shall respond.”
Ackman has been very vocal in the past few months with his criticism of Biden and antisemitism on college campuses following the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas in Israel.
An alumnus of Harvard University, he criticized the school administration’s response to the attack. Following their December congressional testimony, he called for the resignations of then-Harvard President Claudine Gay, University of Pennsylvania President Liz Magill, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology President Sally Kornbluth. Magill resigned from her position in December and Gay resigned from her position at the beginning of January.
