(USNewsMag.com) – As border states transport migrants to Democratic “sanctuary cities” across the country, Democratic leaders are beginning to change their minds about the crisis at the southern border.
Democrat Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has requested $15 billion from the federal government to address the migrant crisis for the “entire country.” Johnson stated that “the entire country is now at stake,” without help from the federal government.
Outside Chicago, signs in Grundy County, Illinois, say, “No migrant buses at this exit.”
Democrat New York City Mayor Eric Adams stated the city is at a “breaking point” and blamed President Joe Biden and Democrat New York Gov. Kathy Hochul for failing to provide the city with more funds to help deal with the crisis. Adams also stated that during 2023, he never met with Biden to address the migrant crisis and the strain it was putting on the city’s resources.
On social media, Edison, New Jersey Mayor Sam Joshi, who is a Democrat, wrote that he had told the town’s emergency management departments and law enforcement officers “to charter a bus to transport the illegal migrants” back to the border.
Trenton, New Jersey Mayor Reed Gusciora, a Democrat, has stated the city does not have the capacity to take in more migrants.
Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman has also stated that being concerned about the border “isn’t xenophobic” and Democrats should engage in reasonable conversation.
On Twitter, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott wrote that over 95,000 migrants have been transported to sanctuary cities, which is just a “fraction of what overwhelmed Texas border towns face.”
In December, a record 302,000 illegal migrants crossed the southern border of the U.S. Over 3.6 million migrants crossed the southern border during fiscal year 2023, with over 2.1 million migrants being apprehended at the border and released into the interior of the United States, according to statistics from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. An estimated 6 million migrants have crossed the southern border since Biden took office in January 2021.
