(USNewsMag.com) – The Food and Drug Administration has announced it is recalling more drinks due to undeclared ingredients, bringing the total number of recalled drinks this year to 28.
The most recent recall affected four drinks from the Charles Boggini Company sold at restaurants, including Cola Flavoring Base, Pink Lemonade, Yellow Lemonade X, and Yellow Lemonade. According to the FDA enforcement notice, the four drinks are part of a recall because they contain harmful chemicals. FD&C Red No. 40 dye, which can cause colorectal cancer, was found in the Pink Lemonade, while Yellow No. 5, known to cause allergic reactions, was found in Yellow Lemonade and Yellow Lemonade X. When consumed in large doses, the sulfites in the Cola Flavoring Base, can cause respiratory issues.
Earlier this year, nearly 1.9 million bottles of Fiji Water were among the drinks recalled for containing three of what the FDA said were “bacterial genera” and manganese, and the drink, Tapee Tea, was part of a recall for containing certain anti-inflammatory drugs not listed on its label.
Pepsi recalled Schweppes Zero Sugar Ginger Ale for containing sugar, while Mug Root Beer recalled 2,000 cases for containing Mug Zero Sugar root beer.
A recall affected Martinelli’s apple juice, with nearly 25,000 cases recalled for high levels of inorganic arsenic, which can increase the risk of skin and bladder cancers.
Powerade was also one of the drinks recalled due to concerns over a potential foreign metal object in the drinks, which affected 900 cases.
Infant formulas were also on the list of recalled items, with over 1 million cans of Enfamil Nutramigen Hypoallergenic Infant Formula Powder recalled for potentially containing the bacteria Cronobacter sakazakii, which can cause brain swelling and seizures, and the Goat Milk Toddler Formula Two was recalled for misleading claims.
Twenty-four of the 28 recalls were for harmful chemicals that were in the product but not declared on the labels.
