Zelenskyy Says Ukraine Liberated Thousands From Russian Control

(USNewsMag.com) – The Russian war on Ukraine has been going on for nearly two months with no sign of ending. Ukraine has put up a tremendous fight against the country that’s often considered one of the only remaining superpowers (aside from the US). The country’s president is now saying his military has liberated many people from Russian control.

On Wednesday, April 20, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy gave a speech to celebrate the visit of European Council President Charles Michel. The visit comes amid a bid by Ukraine to join the European Union. At least 934 settlements have been liberated, according to the president, and thousands of people were freed. Zelenskyy said schools, roads, gas, water, electricity, and medical services are being restored gradually in those communities.

During his remarks, Zelenskyy said his country has already proven its public institutions and government “are effective enough to withstand even the test of war.” He went on to say his country has done more to protect freedom in Europe recently than many others. The president argues these facts all prove that his country is fit to join the EU.

Although the communities have been liberated, Zelenskyy has warned the citizens who are returning to their homes to be careful. There’s still a threat of Russian aggression hanging over their heads — especially as Vladimir Putin’s military continues its assault on the southern and eastern regions of the country.
