If you want to throw your hat into the ring, you should start by making sure you meet all the requirements set by the Constitution and your state. Then, you can move onto setting up your winning campaign.
Constitutional Requirements

Additional Requirements
To get on any state’s ballot, you must meet requirements set by the Federal Election Commission. For an active campaign, you must raise or spend at least $5,000. You must also file a Statement of Candidacy within 15 days of reaching that threshold, either on paper or electronically.
The statement must include your signature and personal information. It also must designate a campaign committee to work on your behalf. If there are any changes, you must report them within 10 days.
Your state may also have requirements you must meet. Typically, these will include submitting a petition with a certain number of signatures, meeting filing deadlines, and paying filing fees. Requirements can vary by state, so you should check them with your local election office.
Running Your Campaign
To win an election and become a member of Congress, you must run a successful campaign.
This platform will allow you to reach out to voters. Hold rallies, give speeches, and attend events where you can get close to people and explain why they should vote for you.
You also need to raise money throughout your campaign. This will pay for labor, materials, and communications, allowing you to remain competitive.
Representing your state or district in Congress is a huge accomplishment. The road to the Capitol starts with understanding the requirements you must meet and building a strong campaign. If Congress is your goal, it is never too early to begin working towards it.
