(USNewsMag.com) – The Durham report, released May 15, vindicates former President Donald Trump after years of allegations he colluded with Russia in the 2016 election, according to former Attorney General William Barr. Department of Justice prosecutor John Durham was appointed by Barr to investigate the FBI probe.
The report details the involvement of Hillary Clinton’s campaign in creating the story. Barr said her campaign was one of the drivers of the narrative when it launched a smear campaign against Trump alleging he colluded with Russia both in the media as well as to the FBI.
According to the report, some of the fake evidence used as the basis of launching the investigation by the FBI was provided by Clinton campaign operatives. The operatives were paid by the Clinton campaign to dig up dirt on Trump, according to the report.
In 2022, the Clinton campaign was fined by the Federal Election Commission for failure to disclose payments to investigative firm Fusion GPS for opposition research on Trump. The now debunked Steele dossier as well as a false story about the Trump campaign was covertly communicating with Russia’s Alfa Bank were both produced by Fusion GPS.
As part of his investigation, Durham interviewed Hillary Clinton as well as members of her campaign team regarding declassified documents that suggested her team played a role in the collusion narrative.
The actions of the members of the Clinton campaign did not amount to a criminal offense that could be proved, the report concluded.
Trump sued Clinton for alleged involvement with the narrative that Trump colluded with Russia during the 2016 election. The lawsuit claims the narrative was created to hurt his campaign. In September 2022, the case was dismissed by a federal judge in Florida, though Trump’s attorney said he would appeal the decision.
Clinton denies her campaign was involved with providing information that launched the FBI’s investigation.
