(USNewsMag.com) – As Congress tries to figure out how to fund the federal government and avoid another government shutdown, former President Donald Trump is saying to let it happen.
On his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump posted that the GOP “lost big” on the debt ceiling and “got nothing.” Trump said now they “are worried” that they will take the blame for the shutdown, which he said is incorrect because “whoever is president will be blamed.”
Trump said the country “is being systematically destroyed” by the Democrats, whom he described as “Radical Left Marxists, Fascists, and Thugs.” He then told Republicans it’s time they “learned to fight.” He told them, unless they “get everything,” to “shut it down.” By “get everything,” Trump meant closing the southern border, stopping the “weaponization of justice,” and ending “election interference.”
He told the GOP to stop listening to Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, whom Trump described as the “weakest, dumbest, and most conflicted” party leader in the history of the US Senate. Trump said McConnell has “already given the Democrats everything” and that new Republican leadership is needed in the Senate, “not a clone of Mitch.”
In a separate post earlier, following the indictment of New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez, Trump called for every Democrat in the Senate to step down. He said they “should all resign” because “they all knew what was going on” regarding Menendez “and the way he lived.” Menendez was charged with federal bribery last Friday.
Trump also brought up his rival, President Joe Biden, and asked his online audience to “imagine how much” Biden “has stolen” and what might be found “in some of his many homes.” Trump added that the Justice Department notified the president that they would be showing up to look in order to give Biden time to “get rid of cash, gold,” and “documents” beforehand, noting that he did not get “any warning” when the FBI raided his Florida residence. Trump said Menendez is “a small timer” compared to Biden.
Like Menendez, Trump knows all about indictments after getting hit with four this year. Despite the criminal charges, he remains the frontrunner for the Republican nomination in 2024.
