Law Enforcement Hero Loses Life On The Line Of Duty
(USNewsMag.com) – Law enforcement officers face an elevated risk of being injured or killed in traffic incidents due to the nature of their jobs. That’s what happened in Texas recently. Now a community is mourning.
On Wednesday, May 11, Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy Robert Adam Howard hit the back of a semi-truck parked on the side of State Highway 249 in suburban Houston. The crash was horrific. Photos of the wreckage show part of the 27-year-old officer’s police SUV crumpled into the tractor-trailer. It looked as though his vehicle split in half.

Initially, the deputy survived the crash and was transported to the hospital, but later died. One of Howard’s motorcycle escorts was injured in a crash on the way to the hospital but the officer is expected to be fine.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said Howard was a member of the Violent Gang Suppression Unit. He’d been with the department since 2019 and was on his way to deliver evidence when the accident occurred. The sheriff said his deputy was outgoing and funny, he had a reputation of being a workhorse.
“Our hearts are broken,” Gonzalez said of the loss.
Deputy Howard is survived by a 2-year-old daughter, 5-year-old son and wife.
