(USNewsMag.com) – Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has been on the outs with some members of the GOP for quite some time. Former President Donald Trump has been speaking out against the senator for the last year. After a stunt by the minority leader allowed Democrats to get what they wanted, the party could be turning against him.
In early December, McConnell struck a deal with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to allow Democrats to raise the debt ceiling with a simple majority vote. The debt ceiling is the amount of money the Treasury Department can borrow to pay the money it owes from past spending. Trump was furious with the minority leader for caving to the Left. He called on Republicans to oust him from his leadership position.
NEW!
President Donald J. Trump:
“Mitch McConnell is giving the Democrats victory on everything. What is wrong with this Broken Old Crow? He’s hurting the Republican Senators and the Republican Party. When will they vote him out of Leadership? He didn’t have the guts to play… pic.twitter.com/NOr1ak4ooV

Trump is not alone in his disappointment. In September, Former Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens, who’s running for Senator Roy Blunt’s (R-MO) vacant seat, said if he’s elected he won’t support McConnell as leader. Kelly Tshibaka, who is running against Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), said she’ll also support a replacement for the minority leader if she wins her race. Fox News’ Tucker Carlson, one of the most influential conservatives on television, is also speaking out against McConnell.
McConnell was once revered in his party for the way he reshaped the Supreme Court, stood against former President Barack Obama, and kept his caucus united. Now, it looks like his reign might be coming to an end thanks to Trump.
