Presidential Debate SCHEDULED – Here’s What To Know!

(USNewsMag.com) – With four candidates officially in the race, the first Republican presidential primary debate has been scheduled. The Republican National Committee voted Feb. 23 to hold the debate in Milwaukee this August. The Republican Party’s national summer meeting will be held during the same period in Milwaukee. No other debates have been scheduled.

For those candidates who do participate the debate criteria, which includes pll averages and fundraising minimums, has yet to be determined, according to Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel.

In 2022, Republican National Committee members voted that Republican presidential candidates must attest to only appear at general election and GOP-sanctioned primary debates.  They must attest in writing.

A loyalty pledge, which would require the primary candidates to back whoever gets the Republican nomination, is also being considered by Republican National Committee members. The pledge would be required for those participating in the debate.

The field of candidates for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination is currently at four with Former President Donald Trump, Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy and former Cranston, Rhode Island Mayor Steve Laffey all announcing the start of their campaigns.

The candidate field could expand as former Vice President Mike Pence,  former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin and New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu have all said they are considering entering the race.

The 2024 Republican National Convention is also scheduled to take place in Milwaukee. In recent elections, Wisconsin has been seen as a swing state that can determine who wins the presidential election.

The Republican nominee could face President Joe Biden in the general election, though he has not made a formal announcement he is running for re-election. Though Vice President Kamala Harris said she will join Biden again in the race, as she expects he will seek re-election.
