(USNewsMag.com) – The relationship between China and Russia has been a hot topic the last few weeks as the war in Ukraine continues. The Russian government allegedly asked the Chinese for help fighting its war. However, it seems the relationship between the two countries might not be on the best footing.
On March 24, Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Colin Kahl said the relationship between the two powers isn’t in a good place. He said he believes Russian President Vladimir Putin caused friction when he invaded Ukraine because his country became “a strategic burden” for the communist party. If true, it would be quite a shift. Just last month, the two countries said there were “no limits” in their relationship.

Kahl didn’t say where he got the information to reach the conclusion. On the outside, it seems as though the relationship between China and Russia is fine. In fact, US lawmakers are so concerned about the possibility of the two countries collaborating, they’ve warned the communist country there would be severe consequences if it took steps to help Putin evade sanctions.
China recently asked US officials for more details on its sanctions against Russia, giving President Joe Biden’s administration hope the two countries aren’t working together.
