(USNewsMag.com) – On Oct. 24, Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene introduced a resolution that would censure Squad member and Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib, whom Greene accused of “antisemitic activity.”
When introducing the resolution, Greene stated that she was going to list examples as Tlaib has not been held accountable by the Democratic Party, adding that nobody has reigned her in.
In the resolution, Greene stated that Tlaib, the only member of Congress who is Palestinian-American, sympathized “with terrorist organizations.” She stated that Tlaib organized an Oct. 18 pro-Palestinian protest in the Cannon House Office Building on Capitol Hill. Hundreds of protestors were inside the rotunda, with thousands outside, demanding a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas. Israel has been bombing Hamas since the Oct. 7 attack that killed over 1,400 people in Israel, including at least 32 Americans. During the attack, Hamas then took an estimated 210 hostages to Gaza, including at least 10 Americans. Two American hostages were released on Oct. 20.
In her resolution, Greene said the protest was “an insurrection.”
During the protest, Tlaib gave a speech in which she blamed Israel for the bombing of a Gaza hospital. Despite intelligence showing it was a misfired rocket from Gaza, Tlaib did not retract the remarks.
Green called for the House Ethics Committee, the House Administration Committee, the Department of Justice, the FBI, and “even possibly the CIA” to be investigating Tlaib’s support of the protest.
Greene made reference in the resolution to a slogan used by Hamas as well as the Palestine Liberation Organization that Tlaib has endorsed. Tlaib’s past comments, when she referred to Israel as “an apartheid government,” were also mentioned. Greene also mentioned a 2019 comment in which Tlaib said that she got a “calming feeling” when thinking about the Holocaust.
Greene stated that she believes “every single Republican” would vote to censure Tlaib. She added that she would be shocked if the left “didn’t vote for it.”
