Media MELTDOWN – Hollywood On STANDBY

(USNewsMag.com) – Moviegoers have enthusiastically backed “The Sound of Freedom,” the movie about Tim Ballard, a former Department of Homeland Security agent who left his job in child crimes to pursue child traffickers in Colombia. The progressive, liberal media has not been as supportive as the public.

“The Sound of Freedom” highlights the atrocity of child trafficking that persists today. It has earned over $40 million at the box office and enjoyed one of the biggest openings in recent times for a faith-based film, according to Comscore. The Angel’s Studios film earned an A+ on CinemaScore and a 99% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Jim Caviezel, the actor who plays Tim Ballard, is known for his lead role in Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ.” After the Gibson-directed film, Caviezel struggled to find work in Hollywood, perhaps due to his conservative religious and political stances. In this movie, the love of God and children motivates both Caviezel, a Catholic, and Ballard, a Mormon, to take risks and face criticism.

The film was made in 2018 through 20th Century Fox, before Disney acquired the studio. “The Sound of Freedom” was quickly forgotten, then resurrected and distributed outside of a big studio. Angel Studios crowdfunded the movie’s marketing from the public and previous investors.

Rolling Stone commented that the film is a “Superhero Movie for Dads with brainworms,” and the Washington Post was quick to call Jim Caviezel a “QAnon conspiracy theorist.” The Guardian describes it as a “paranoid new movie turning into a surprise box-office hit” and writes an entire article about it, using phrases such as “unsavory network of astroturfed boosterism among the far-right fringe” and “the disappointingly un-juicy Sound of Freedom pretends to be a real movie.”

Even with the negative reviews and backlash, “The Sound of Freedom” continues to top the box office, coming in as the number 2 film in the nation according to Rotten Tomatoes.
