(USNewsMag.com) – As the controversy over merchandise at Target puts pressure on the company, a new song, “Boycott Target” is climbing the charts on ITunes.
On May 29, the song, by Forgiato Blow, Nick Nittoli, Stoney Dudebro and Jimmy Levy, reached number 1 on the hip hop charts. The song, which was released May 25, has over 3 million views.
The lyrics include the line, “Target is targetin’ your kids.” The video for the song was filmed at a Target store, in the section featuring the items Target has as part of its Pride Month section.
In mentioning the song, Rogan O’Handley said on Twitter to “leave the kids alone.” Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s May 26 retweet of the video now has 1.4 million views.
In a video posted to Twitter May 29, Forgiato Blow thanked his supporters and said this is “how we change this culture.” Forgiato Blow, whose name is really Kurt Jantz, is a supporter of former President Donald Trump.
Target has faced criticism after videos surfaced on social media which showed the store now sold “tuck-friendly” swimsuits for women. The videos also showed products aimed at children which include bags with sayings such as “We Belong Everywhere, that were made by designer Abprallen who claims to be a worshiper of Satan.
In response to the controversy, Target announced it would be pulling some of the products from stores, including a tote bag and sweater.
Since the controversy began, Target stock has fallen 8.5 percent in a week, from $152.28 on May 19, to $139.39 on May 25. During the same week, Target’s market capitalization, or the total value of a publicly traded company’s outstanding shares, decreased from $70.4 billion to $64.4 billion.
The Target boycott comes as Bud Light is continuing to see a decline in sales after teaming up with transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney. The company has lost $16 billion in market value.
