(USNewsMag.com) – On June 20, former President Trump spoke out about what he described as the “corrupt” justice system in the United States.
The comments came as U.S. attorney for Delaware David Weiss announced that Hunter Biden had entered a plea agreement for what Trump described as amounting to a “traffic ticket.”
As part of the plea agreement, Biden will enter a guilty plea for two counts of willful failure to pay federal income tax as well as enter into a pretrial diversion agreement for the separate charge of possession of a firearm by an unlicensed person. The charges stem from a federal investigation that began in 2018 into funds from foreign nationals, as well as lying on federal form during the purchase of a gun in 2018.
The plea deal will keep Biden out of jail. Without a plea agreement, the charges for income tax have a maximum sentence of 12 months each, and the firearm charge has a maximum sentence of 10 years. A judge must still approve the plea deal.
House Oversight Committee Chairman and Kentucky Rep. James Comer stated this is not the end of the investigation into Hunter Biden.
Trump said if this had been a member of his family the outcome would be very different, saying this is a “very unfair situation.” He added that a member of his family would be facing a sentence of “hundreds of years.” Trump said the situation amounts to both “prosecutorial misconduct” as well as “election interference.”
On Trump’s Truth Social social media platform Trump called the justice system “BROKEN!”
Trump’s comments come as he pleaded not guilty to 37 federal charges to the alleged improper storage of classified documents. The charges come after an investigation by Special Counsel Jack Smith. It was announced June 20 that the trial will begin Aug. 14. The first Republican primary debate is currently scheduled for Aug. 23. If Trump is convicted, he could be facing spending the rest of his life in prison.
