(USNewsMag.com) – In September, President Joe Biden issued a wide-reaching COVID-19 vaccine mandate. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) is now threatening legal action against the administration for that action.
On Thursday, October 14, DeSantis held a press conference in Fort Myers to discuss monoclonal antibody treatments, which Florida offers to coronavirus patients for free. At that conference, the governor spoke out against the Biden mandate which requires all businesses with more than 100 employees to get the vaccine or undergo regular testing. He said he’s “offended” that the president could cost people “who have been working hard throughout this entire pandemic” their jobs. He told the crowd the state must protect those jobs.
Attempting to impose an unconstitutional mandate on the American people that will cause people to lose their jobs and will leave key industries shorthanded is divisive. pic.twitter.com/tNLMSrv0aG

DeSantis is particularly worried about the impact the mandate will have on key industries like healthcare where hospitals are already facing nurse shortages. Some healthcare facilities around the country are already seeing the impact of the mandates. In September, a NY hospital announced it would stop delivering babies after dozens of staff members quit over the vaccine mandate.
Florida lawmakers are also considering legislation that would allow employees to sue employers over the directive. The state hasn’t filed a lawsuit against the federal government yet, but has said the lawsuits will be filed in the 11th US Circuit Court of Appeals.
