Fauci Says He Doesn't Think People Will Be Allowed to Fly Maskless Again

(USNewsMag.com) – After nearly two years of COVID-19 restrictions, Americans are eager to get back to normal. While most of the restrictions around the country have been lifted, President Joe Biden extended the mask requirement on airplanes. The mandate will become permanent if one health official has his way.

On December 19, NIAID Director Dr. Anthony Fauci spoke to ABC’s “This Week.” During the interview, he was asked about recent Senate testimony from Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly about masks. The executive claimed masks don’t really benefit travelers because the airplane filtration systems are so good. Fauci said he doesn’t think the country will get to a point where masks are no longer necessary on planes because people “want to go that extra step” for protection.

Although he wants to keep Americans in masks on planes for the foreseeable future, he told NBC’s “Meet the Press” he no longer believes vaccinated people need to be isolated after being exposed to the virus. He said they might want to be tested a few days after to see if they have a breakthrough infection.

It seems as though the doctor is constantly moving the goalposts when it comes to COVID-19. Even though science and the understanding of it evolves, it’s confusing to those who want to do what they can to keep safe when Fauci’s recommendations change day-to-day.
