European Leaders Discuss Additional Restrictions Against Russia

Putin Has No Idea What’s Coming For Him Out Of Europe

( – At the end of April, Russian gas company Gazprom announced it would no longer supply energy to Poland or Bulgaria. The NATO countries were being cut off for refusing to pay for energy supplies in rubles. Poland is now trying to gather support to fight back.

On Monday, May 2, Poland asked its partners in the European Union to impose sweeping sanctions on Russia. Polish Climate and Environment Minister Anna Moskwa said the country wants to sanction Russian oil, gas, and coal as its next step.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the EU will likely propose an end to purchasing Russian oil and oil products by the end of 2022. The proposals are supposed to be made public on May 3. Hungary and Slovakia would receive additional time because the two nations are very dependent on Russian oil. Germany is on board with the plan even though it would likely cause an increase in gas prices in the country.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said the countries are putting together a sixth sanction package. If adopted, the measures would stay in place until Russia pulled all of its troops out of Ukraine.

Do you believe Russia should face harsher sanctions?
