Elon Musk Sounds The Alarm On Falling Birth Rates
(USNewsMag.com) – Tesla Founder Elon Musk might be the very last person people expect to converse with about birth rates. However, the billionaire seems very concerned about the topic. Recently, he spoke about those concerns.
On May 24, Musk tweeted a graph created by the Wall Street Journal showing how the US birth rates plummeted in the ‘60s and have remained below the “replacement level” since then. That’s the birth rate the US needs to achieve to replace the generation that’s died. The US replacement level is a birth rate of 2.1%, but it’s remained below 2% since the mid-1970s.

It’s not just the US birth rate Musk thinks isn’t high enough. The billionaire responded to a tweet from cybersecurity researcher Andrea Stroppa who shared a chart from the Italian National Institute of Statistics showing birth rates in Italy have been falling since the 1960s. Musk warned Italy wouldn’t have any people if it continues.

In a recent interview with Axel Springer CEO Mathias Döpfner, Musk said he’s spent a lot of time thinking about falling birth rates. He believes it’s the “single biggest threat to the future of human civilization.”
