(USNewsMag.com) – It’s no secret Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and her husband, Paul, have made millions from the stock market trades while she’s been in office. In fact, many lawmakers have benefited handsomely from doing the same thing while in office, raising concerns about insider trading. Congress is now trying to put an end to it.
On February 16, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) appeared on CNN to discuss a new bill she has introduced with Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) to prohibit members of Congress or their spouses from buying, owning or trading individual stocks. The senators believe their colleagues should sell off all of their stocks and invest them in mutual funds.
My bill with @SteveDaines is really straightforward: it says if you're a Member of Congress, you and your spouse cannot own, buy, or trade individual stocks.
It's simple, direct, and it’s the only bipartisan bill in the Senate. pic.twitter.com/ooaLmg3X6c

In December, Business Insider reported 182 senior congressional staffers and 57 members of Congress have violated federal conflict-of-interest laws, making it even more critical that the legislature pass a bill. The question remains, will the bill apply to the senior congressional staffers, too?
The same day Warren was on CNN, Daines called the KGVO Newsmakers Line to discuss the new bill as well. He said he often disagrees with Warren on various other issues, but he believes this legislation is something they should do. Further, he said he’d recently heard the vast majority of Americans want to see the bill passed.
Do you agree with Warren and Daines?
