(USNewsMag.com) – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is speaking out against fellow 2024 Republican presidential candidate and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, accusing her of attempting to be “politically correct” in regard to refugees from Gaza.
During an interview with CNN, Haley stated the United States “has always been sympathetic to the fact” that civilians are able to be separated from terrorists, adding that is what must be done with the refugees from Gaza. Haley added that we can’t “take our eyes off of the terrorists.”
In an interview with NBC News Now, DeSantis discussed the former United Nations ambassador’s comments about refugees from Gaza. DeSantis said that while Haley would import refugees, he “would not import” refugees from Gaza into the United States. He stated that while not all Palestinian refugees are “members of Hamas,” they do teach younger generations “to hate Jews,” which you do not “want to import into the United States.” He stated that they have a “very toxic culture,” which he worries about importing into the country.
DeSantis added that she is “willing to speak the truth.” He added that Haley is just trying to appease the “media and people on the left,” which DeSantis said he doesn’t care about.
On Oct. 17, Haley appeared on Fox News, where she stated that she believes that the U.S. “shouldn’t take any Gazan refugees.” She added that she feels they should be taken in by other countries in the region, such as Iran, Turkey, or Qatar.
Following the Oct. 7 attack in Israel, DeSantis was the first 2024 Republican presidential candidate to say refugees from Gaza should not be permitted to enter the U.S.
The superPAC backing DeSantis, Never Back Down, also released a new 30-second ad that highlights the contrasting comments of Haley and DeSantis regarding the refugees from Gaza. The ad is running in Iowa and New Hampshire as part of a $2 million ad buy, as well as on Fox and Newsmax nationally.
