CNN's 4th Quarter Primetime Viewership Slumps By 73%

( – CNN has been having a rough time lately. The cable news network’s viewership tanked when former President Donald Trump left office, showing how much it relied on him to drive viewership. Then it lost one of their most popular hosts, Chris Cuomo, after he helped his brother, disgraced ex-New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D), fight sexual harassment allegations. The fourth quarter viewership numbers spelled even more bad news for the network.

According to live-plus-same-day Nielsen data, CNN’s primetime viewership tanked in quarter 4. The network came in number 6 for its total viewership on basic cable. The network had 492,000 viewers during the day, down 18% from quarter 3. In the evening, it averaged 642,000 viewers, down 73% from Q4 in 2020.

While CNN’s numbers tanked, Fox News remained the most popular news network. It had 1.44 million total viewers during the 24-hour period. It’s the second most-viewed network on basic cable, behind ESPN.

Critics have blasted CNN over the last few years for its highly partisan opinions. The 2020 election coverage was an example of their one-sidedness. Its hosts were thrilled when former President Donald Trump lost the election. Don Lemon nearly cried. Jake Tapper repeatedly insulted the 45th president’s children. It was very clear there was a partisan bias at the once-trusted network.

Is it any surprise viewers fled?
