Clinton Calls for ‘Formal Deprogramming’ of Trump Supporters

( – Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton appeared on CNN’s “Primetime” last Thursday and made a bizarre suggestion that Trump supporters are “cult members” who need to be formally “deprogrammed.”

Clinton, whom Trump defeated in the 2016 presidential election, made the remark while commenting on Congress’s bipartisan efforts to avoid another government shutdown. She told CNN host Christiane Amanpour that based on “the number of Republicans who voted along with Democrats” to avoid a shutdown, she sees “a common sense, sane part” of the House GOP but thinks “they are intimidated,” which often makes them “say and do things” they know to be bad.

Clinton said the only way forward for the country is to defeat “those most extreme measures” and those “who promote them” so the two parties can find “common ground” and “work together” again. She said this is “the way it used to be.” According to Clinton, although there were always “very bitter battles” between both parties “over all kinds of things,” there did not used to be “this little tail of extremists” in the Republican Party. She accused such “extremists” of taking “marching orders” from Trump, who she said “has no credibility left.”

The former presidential candidate who lost to him, Clinton, said Trump is “only in it for himself.” In light of the civil and criminal lawsuits against the former president, she asked when the Republicans who support Trump will “break with him.” And if not, Clinton suggested that “at some point” there may need to be “a formal deprogramming of the cult members.”

Clinton’s remarks sparked a backlash from conservatives and Republicans across social media, who found her comment to be disturbing.

Despite her misgivings, Clinton also said she believes that “sadly,” Trump “will still be the nominee.” She said the former president must be defeated, as well as “those who are… election deniers.” Clinton was referring to Trump’s supporters who believe that the 2020 election was stolen from him, which her critics find ironic because Clinton spent all of Trump’s term in office accusing him of stealing the 2016 election from her.
