Biden Interviewed About Classified Documents By Special Counsel

(USNewsMag.com) – The White House Counsel’s Office revealed earlier this week that President Joe Biden chose to participate in an interview for two days as part of the ongoing investigation into the president’s mishandling of classified government documents.

At the White House, Special Counsel Robert Hur conducted an extensive interview with Biden on Sunday and Monday. The interview was “voluntary,” according to Ian Sams, a spokesman for the White House Counsel’s Office.

Sams said that Biden “and the White House are cooperating” with them and that the Special Counsel “have provided relevant updates publicly” to a level deemed “appropriate” in order to be as transparent as they can while consistently “protecting and preserving” the investigation’s integrity. Sams added that any “other questions” should be taken up with the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Hur is leading the probe into the president with the appointment of Attorney General Merrick Garland, who picked Hur to oversee the investigation. The two-day interview with Biden took place while the Middle East was erupting into violence following an attack by the Islamic militant group Hamas against Israel, which resulted in Israeli retaliation and another bombardment of the Gaza Strip. As expected, Republicans and Democrats are divided on how the US should respond to the situation and how Israel should be encouraged to respond.

The probe into Biden resulted from the November 2022 discovery of records improperly stored at the Penn Biden Center by Biden’s attorneys. While staff were emptying the office (used by Biden from 2017 to 2020), the batch of records was recovered from a locked closet, after which the National Archives were contacted and given the documents the following day. After this, more documents were discovered at Biden’s Delaware residence.

Two months before Biden’s document scandal, former President Donald Trump was already in trouble for the same reason and even received an FBI raid to recover classified documents from his Florida residence.
