(USNewsMag.com) – Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) obliterated the Democratic Party’s plans to pass the massive human infrastructure legislation dubbed the Build Back Better plan. He announced his decision on the December 19 episode of “Fox News Sunday,” and to say his party is angry would be an understatement.
Manchin said he didn’t want to support the plan because he didn’t believe adding to the country’s debt during the COVID-19 pandemic and amidst inflation would be a good idea. He didn’t think the legislation would benefit the people of West Virginia, so he did what he was supposed to do, make good decisions for his constituents. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), leader of The Squad, lashed out at her colleague over his decision. She told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” the senator committed an “egregious breach of trust of [President Joe Biden].”

AOC wasn’t the only progressive member of the party to attack Manchin. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) called his reasons for making the decision “bull****.” Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) said she was mad at every member of her party who trusted the senator’s “corporatist ego.”
Other members of the far-left want to force Manchin to go on the record voting no on the legislation. They’re calling on Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to call a floor vote. Manchin, who’s being praised by Republicans for his stance, isn’t backing down; he will not be silenced by the extreme factions of his party.
